Blinken arrived in Kazakhstan: Tokayev thanked the United States for supporting sovereignty

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Kazakhstan on February 28. Tokayev thanked the United States for supporting sovereignty.

The head of Kazakhstan noted the importance of Blinken's visit for building strategic cooperation between the countries.

What is known about Blinken's visit to Kazakhstan

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan and the United States have very good and reliable long-term partnerships in such strategically important areas as security, energy, trade and investment.

Therefore, we are ready for the further development of this cooperation. Taking this opportunity, I would like to express our gratitude for the constant and firm support of the United States to our independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty, the head of Kazakhstan emphasized.

Blinken called for deepening partnerships between countries. The Secretary of State noted that only in recent years the United States and Kazakhstan have made “important new progress in this direction.”

We intend to cooperate at the highest level,” Anthony Blinken assured.

The position of Kazakhstan on the war of Russia against Ukraine

  • In June 2022, Tokayev said live on a Russian propaganda TV channel that Kazakhstan would not assist Russia in circumventing sanctions. In addition, he was indignant at the fact that some Russian politicians are conducting aggressive rhetoric against Kazakhstan.
  • Also at the international economic forum in St. Petersburg, on the same stage with Putin, Tokayev said that Kazakhstan would not recognize “quasi-state formations” in the Donbass.
  • Kazakh MP Azamat Abildayev supported the Russian invasion and called the Ukrainian government “Nazis”. For this he was expelled from the party.
  • Recently it became known that Kazakhstan liquidated its trade representation in Russia.
