Blackout schedules may remain in effect until August – Shmygal adviser

Lightouts due to the difficult situation in the power system may continue at least until August.

This was stated at a press conference at the Media Center Ukraine by Advisor to the Prime Minister, member of the supervisory board of NEC Ukrenergo Yuriy Boyko.

Lights out schedules 2024

— If we talk about the restrictions that began a day ago, I won’t reveal a big secret if I say that in these conditions, according to my estimates, we will have to live until August, — he emphasized.

At the same time, Boyko predicts a slight improvement in August-September.

Now watching

According to him, during this period nuclear generation will exit the active phase of repairs, and a large amount of solar generation will still be present in the energy system.

— It will still be warm, but not hot, so the additional load on the system, which traditionally occurs during the hottest summer months, will be reduced, — Shmygal's advisor explained.

What will happen in winter

Boyko warned that it will not be possible to avoid a shortage in the energy system next winter, so there will be restrictions on consumption.

— The winter will definitely be hard, I would even say — inevitably heavy. There is no chance of restoring in full what was destroyed in two spring months, — he noted.

The size of these restrictions will depend on many factors, he said.
