The Ministry of Energy has agreed on schedules for power outages in the event of massive Russian shelling of energy infrastructure facilities, but so far there are no plans for power outages.

Deputy Minister of Energy Svetlana Grinchuk stated this in broadcast of the national telethon United News.

— Once the generation and distribution networks are ready, we do not plan shutdowns or blackouts. But we have one big challenge — These are repeated attacks by the Russians on our energy system. Of course we are expecting them. According to our and world intelligence, the Russians plan to continue attacks on the energy system, — she said.

Now they are watching

At the same time, Grinchuk says, this year Ukrainian power engineers have more training and understanding to combat the consequences of massive shelling. In addition, the skies of Ukraine are better protected by air defense systems.

— We hope that this year we will be able to be more prepared for attacks and recover faster if there is any damage. We do not plan blackouts or shutdowns, but the distribution system operators have prepared shutdown schedules in case Russian attacks and damage are such that we have to implement these schedules, — she added.

Earlier, the head of Ukrenergo said that the main energy supply network was almost ready for winter. At the same time, the safety margin continues to increase in order to have a reserve in the energy system. The head of Ukrenergo admitted that massive shelling of the energy system could change the situation, so power engineers are considering worst-case scenarios.
