“What this bill does is if you buy products from Russia and you don't help Ukraine, then your products coming into the U.S. are subject to a 500 percent tariff,” Graham told Clash Report.
According to the senator, India and China buy 70% of Russian oil, effectively financing the “Russian military machine.”
The bill has 84 co-sponsors. Graham said it would give the president the power to impose tough tariffs on those countries to force them to stop supporting Russia and “bring Putin to the negotiating table.”
Graham noted that he had played golf with Trump the day before, and he had said that “ it’s time to move the bill forward .”
The senator suggested that the document could be adopted after the July session of Congress. When asked whether Trump would sign the bill, Graham replied: Yeah, I think we're doing well.
Recall that the Semafor publication, citing sources, wrote that the US Senate postponed consideration of the bill on strengthening sanctions against Russia and its trade partners until at least July due to the escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran.
