Xi Jinping and Biden are expected to meet away from the conference site, at a huge estate located a few miles from San Francisco.

During the meeting, which could last several hours, Biden will insist that the Chinese leader use China's influence and urge Iran not to resort to provocations or encourage its supporters to take active action to avoid an escalation of the military conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Reuters notes that White House and Chinese officials do not have high hopes for the meeting, with Biden and Xi expected to discuss Taiwan, the situation in the South China Sea, the war between Israel and Hamas, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, North Korea's ballistic missile launches and rights human rights – all those areas in which both countries cannot come to an agreement.
