United States President Joe Biden underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his chest. It happened recently – on February 16th.
This became known from a letter from Dr. Kevin O'Connor, published on the official website of the White House.
The letter says. that on February 16 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the President of the United States had a chest injury removed as part of a comprehensive health assessment.
According to O'Connor, the operation was a success, and the tumor site healed well. A biopsy revealed that Joe Biden had basal cell skin cancer.
What is known about this type of cancer
Basal cell skin cancer is the most common form of skin cancer and develops from the basal cells found in the lower part of the epidermis, the top layer of the skin. This type of cancer usually does not spread to other parts of the body, but can damage surrounding tissues and organs if left unnoticed. Basal cell skin cancer usually appears on the face, neck, or arms, which are most often exposed to sunlight. There are several factors that can increase the risk of developing basal cell skin cancer, including long-term exposure to the sun, especially during childhood, and tanning habits.
The medic also noted that the American leader will continue to be under the supervision of dermatologists.
Basal cell carcinoma cells do not “spread” or metastasize as is known in some more serious skin cancers such as melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma, Kevin O'Connor said.
Recall that according to the Daily Mail, on January 11, US First Lady Jill Biden was scheduled to have an operation to remove a neoplasm above her right eye. It was reported that the wife of the American president was diagnosed with skin cancer.
On February 13, Russian journalists reported that contracts for oncological examinations of Vladimir Putin were classified in Russia. Media representatives who previously had access to the documents emphasized that data indicating that the president of the aggressor country periodically visits an oncologist has disappeared from the Russian public procurement website.
