Biden spoke on the phone with Zelensky: he promised international condemnation and sanctions

On Friday, the American president will meet with G7 leaders.

US President Joe Biden spoke by phone with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky after the announcement of a “special military operation of the Russian Federation” in Ukraine

This is stated in a White House statement released on February 24.

“President Zelensky contacted me today. We have just finished talking. I have condemned this unprovoked and unjustified attack by the Russian armed forces. I have briefed him on the steps we are taking to draw international condemnation, in particular tonight at the United Nations Security Council United Nations,” Biden said.

Biden said Zelenskiy asked him to “call on world leaders to speak out clearly against President Putin's blatant aggression and stand with the people of Ukraine.”

Biden promised to provide Ukraine with comprehensive support. In particular, on February 25, the head of the White House will meet with the leaders of the G7. “The United States, our allies and partners will impose tough sanctions against Russia. We will continue to provide support and assistance to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” Biden said.
