US President Joe Biden convenes top military leaders for their annual meeting at the White House. It is currently of particular importance as the war in Ukraine escalates.
Military meeting at the White House
US National Security Council Speaker Jake Sullivan. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley and senior military leaders are attending the meeting, he said.
The event includes an official meeting as well as a dinner at the presidential residence with the spouses of the leaders. This year, this meeting is of particular importance, because important issues of the situation in Ukraine are on the agenda.
Also during the meeting, they will discuss the future of NATO armed forces in Europe, in particular, the establishment of a permanent presence in the eastern border of the defense alliance with Russia.
US aid to Ukraine
Earlier media reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden this week will announce another $800 million military aid package to Ukraine. A week ago, the same amount of assistance to Ukraine was already approved in the country.
If it is approved, the total amount of assistance that the United States has allocated to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion will reach $3.4 billion.
