Norway will provide Hellfire missiles to the Ukrainian army. They are quite effective and have many advantages, so they will significantly enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This Channel 24 was told by military expert, editor-in-chief of Defense Express Oleg Katkov. He noted that Ukraine will receive an extremely high-precision system capable of hitting 11 kilometers.
What is a Hellfire missile
Katkov noted that in general Hellfire is an American air-launched missile. It was designed to destroy enemy armored vehicles and fire from helicopters. This missile has been around for a long time and is extremely effective.
Hellfire is such a bestseller on the arms market,” the military expert emphasized.
That is, he noted, in general, this is a kind of Kalashnikov assault rifle in the world of air-launched anti-tank missiles.
How the Norwegians adapted the Hellfire
Katkov said that Hellfire is often adapted, for example, for launching from the ground. If you think of rockets like the Brimstone supplied by the UK, this will also be a Hellfire, but modernized.
The Scandinavians – both Norwegians and Swedes – took this Hellfire and made it portable anti-ship complex in fact. That is, they adapted it for launching from the ground,” he said.
According to a military expert, they have created a small tripod that can launch a rocket. There is also a remote laser illuminator. The missile fires and hits precisely the illuminated target – be it a ship or a boat.
That is, Katkov explained, the Scandinavians simply made a kind of mini-anti-ship complex out of Hellfire, because they have specific tasks for defending their own coast and they need there was just such a complex.

How Ukraine can better use Hellfire missiles
Katkov believes that since Ukraine has Neptun and Harpoon missiles, there is no longer a strong need to maintain such a layered anti-ship defense. Therefore, most likely, Hellfire will be used for its primary purpose.
That is, to destroy objects not on the water, but on the ground. That is, we will get a very high-precision system that is capable of hitting 11 km, – the military expert emphasized.
The only issue, he noted, is the correct organization of target illumination. Indeed, in the system from the Norwegians, target illumination occurs at a short distance from the launcher itself using a remote device.
But, Katkov added, theoretically, with the right organization, it is possible to highlight targets using drones such as ScanEagle, which we were given USA. If you correctly coordinate both shots and target illumination from the UAV, then it will be possible to beat deep into enemy territory 11 kilometers with extremely high-precision fire.
