The mayor of Berdichev, Sergei Orlyuk, was detained on suspicion of extorting a bribe.
This was reported to the Interfax-Ukraine agency by sources in law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, the Berdichev City Council reported on the detention of the official Hromadske, citing the press secretary of the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police, Natalia Kalinovskaya. She did not disclose the specific position or name of the person involved.

She said that the criminal case is being investigated on the fact of extortion and receipt of illegal benefits by an official. The police promised to provide details later.
As Interfax-Ukraine has learned, a court hearing will be held on Saturday, June 21, with the aim of choosing a preventive measure for Orlyuk and removing him from the post of mayor.
Orlyuk has been the mayor of Berdichev since 2020. Before that, he was the head and chief physician of his own Veterinary Medicine Center Aibolit. He was a deputy of the Zhytomyr Regional Council of three convocations.
