Polish patrol on the border with Belarus spotted six Belarusian soldiers trying to dig under the newly erected wall.

Polish border patrol spotted Belarusian soldiers in the area guarding the post in Dubiche Cherkevna. They noted that because of this digging, on Sunday 21 people tried to illegally enter the territory of Poland from Belarus, including citizens of Morocco, Senegal and India.

Fence on the border between Poland and Belarus

Currently, 150 kilometers of fences have already been installed on the border with Belarus. But the length of the five-meter fence will be 186 kilometers. The very border between Poland and Belarus is about 400 kilometers. 50 thousand tons of steel were spent on metal barriers. The total cost of the structure, including technical equipment, will be about PLN 1.6 billion (about UAH 11 billion). The work must be completed by June 30 this year.

Why Poland built the fence

Last year, Poland and the Baltic states accused Belarus and Russia of hybrid aggression using artificially created migration flows at the border. In the summer of 2021, thousands of migrants from Asia, the Middle East and Africa gathered on the borders of Belarus with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.

They all tried to get into the European Union. Then, on some days, up to 1,500 attempts to illegally cross the border were recorded. After that, the countries that were attacked were forced to introduce a state of emergency. Troops were sent to the border to contain the refugees.

The largest attack on the border took place on November 16, when migrants trying to illegally enter the EU were led by Roman Podlinev, deputy head of the state border committee of Belarus. His identity was identified from photographs from the scene.

The European Union believes that self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko resorted to such a cargo with the help of refugees in order to avenge the sanctions that were imposed on him due to the establishment of a dictatorship in country.
