Russia actively used the territory of Belarus to attack Ukraine. Now there are almost no Russian troops left there. But the Belarusian troops still force the Ukrainian army to constantly keep them in sight.

The Belarusian army is not actively involved in the war against Ukraine, which Russia started. Although the territory of the country was used as a springboard for the Russian offensive in Ukraine – the encirclement of Kyiv and Chernigov.

Now, Belarus has deployed its special operations forces near the Ukrainian borders, as well as artillery and missiles at firing ranges in the west of the country.

British intelligence notes that the presence of the Belarusian army near the borders does not allow the Ukrainian military to fully deploy its forces for support for the defense of Donbass.

Twine from Lukashenka

British intelligence officers point out how the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is trying to get out of this situation. On the one hand, he understands his significant dependence on Russia, but does not want to further expose himself to a blow. This is not only about new Western sanctions, but also a revolt of Belarusians.

“Belarusian President Lukashenko is likely balancing support for a Russian invasion with a desire to avoid direct military involvement with the risk of Western sanctions, Ukrainian revenge and possible discontent Belarusian military,” the British intelligence report says.

Belarus’ participation in the war against Ukraine

The Ukrainian authorities were preparing for Russia to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine at the end of February. But it turned out to be unprepared for the fact that Belarus would be used as a springboard for such an attack. This explains the rapid advance of the infidels to Kyiv and Chernihiv.

But after that, the Ukrainian troops managed to repel the enemy's attack on the Ukrainian capital. And after the defeat, the Russians retreated through the territory of Belarus. It was from there that many of them sent the property stolen in Ukraine to their homes.

And from the territory of Belarus, Russian troops regrouped and transferred through the territory of Russia already to the east of Ukraine.

At the same time, all this time Russia also uses airfields in Belarus to base its aircraft, which bombs Ukraine. Also, missiles are launched from Belarus in Ukraine. According to estimates, during the 70 days of the war (as of May 4), at least 631 missiles were fired at Ukraine from Belarus. For example, on May 12, the total number of Russian missiles launched into Ukraine is over 2100.
