Belarus accuses Lithuania of building nuclear waste repositories for a nuclear power plant that stopped in 2009. Minsk claims that Lithuania is building burial grounds near the Belarusian border.
Belarus declares that Lithuania is carrying out secret work
The corresponding statement was made by the speaker of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz. According to him, three new units have been put into operation at the site of the Ignalina NPP, the complete dismantling of which should be completed in 2038.
“Recently, three new facilities have been put into commercial operation at the site of the Ignalina NPP – an intermediate storage facility for spent nuclear fuel, a complex for the extraction of solid radioactive waste MI-1 and a complex for the extraction of solid radioactive waste MI-2, MI-3,” – said in Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
Belarus accuses Lithuania that these works are carried out in secret. In addition, Minsk stated that the Lithuanian side has not allowed key IAEA missions to the Ignalina NPP site for more than 15 years.

Belarus threatened the Baltic countries
- Earlier, Alexander Volfovich, the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, threatened the Baltic countries. He warned Lithuania, Poland and Latvia with destruction, deaths and explosions, allegedly because they were preparing aggression against Belarus.
- Against the background of the fact that the Belarusian authorities allow Russia to commit aggression against Ukraine from its territory, Latvia called on citizens countries not to visit Belarus.
