Before the Second Peace Summit: How the Events in Kursk Region Affect World Diplomacy Regarding the Negotiations Petro Sineoky

Ukraine expects to develop a plan for the Second Peace Summit by November 2024. The option of having representatives of Russia present at the event is also being considered, although the Kremlin rejects this possibility.

Candidate of Political Sciences, international expert Stanislav Zhelikhovsky told Channel about this, noting that the situation is currently uncertain. It is difficult to say whether the Second Peace Summit can really take place in November.

Ukrainian diplomacy is working to hold this event. The First Peace Summit turned out to be truly fruitful and gave rise to the peacekeeping process. In order to make progress with this, it is necessary to attract more states that would support the Ukrainian formula of peace.

In parallel, there is the so-called “peace plan” from China and Brazil, which essentially proposes to freeze military actions and then negotiate. There is no talk there about restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

How events in Kursk region affect possible negotiations

As Zhelikhovsky noted, Ukraine needs military achievements on the battlefield to improve its negotiating positions. And the events in the Kursk region are absolutely appropriate here.

If Russia loses on the political, diplomatic, economic and military fronts, this may lead to it participating in our Peace Summit. This also applies to China, Brazil and other countries, – said Zhelikhovsky.

It is also unlikely that Ukraine will be inclined to the Chinese-Brazilian “peace plan”. After all, it does not meet the interests of our state. If we allow a freeze in hostilities, this will lead to the rearmament of Russia. And over time, the war will continue.
