President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen called on the EU to support Ukraine as long as necessary.
This is reported by Reuters.
— As the war drags on, we must prove what it means to support Ukraine for as long as it takes — she said in the European Parliament on the eve of the leaders' summit.
The European Commission proposed that this week's summit decide to begin negotiations on Ukraine's membership of the EU as soon as it fulfills the four conditions set out earlier. The EU representative in Brussels suggested that this could happen in March.

Von der Leyen said laws passed by Ukraine last week, particularly on national minorities, had solved three of the remaining problems, meaning only one thing was missing: a new lobbying law that would restrained the oligarchs.
It is pointed out that while EU officials say they can override Hungary's veto on providing Ukraine with €50 billion in economic aid until 2027, advancing Ukraine's European aspirations requires unanimous support from all 27 countries in the bloc.
The summit of leaders of EU member states will be held on December 14-15 in Brussels.
