The State Bureau of Investigation has exposed a large-scale system of torture of prisoners in prisons in a number of regions of Ukraine. Suspicion has been declared against workers of a colony in the Poltava region.

Torture of prisoners in Ukrainian prisons
It is noted that employees of the State Bureau of Investigation exposed numerous cases of torture of prisoners in a number of regions of Ukraine. Suspicions were reported to four officials state institution Bozhkovskaya correctional colony (No. 16).

Almost everyone who ended up in the colony became victims of criminals. The State Bureau of Investigation noted that the process of identifying persons who became victims of colony officials continues.
— New arrivals were threatened with settlement among the “rejected as a whole” They beat the prisoners until they broke their will and forced them to unquestioningly follow any instructions. Now information is being checked even about the facts of death from beatings, — says the SBI message.
The investigation established that from the moment of arrival at the colony each of the convicts underwent a strict reception procedure, during which newly arrived convicts were forced to clean the floor, removing the specified process on a video camera.
If they refused, they were subjected to torture: they beat them with their hands, feet, rubber truncheons, sticks in different parts of the body, twisted their arms, and the like. Among other things, for example, the fact of inflicting more than 200 blows on one of the convicts was documented.
The investigation has video files that record the moment of grievous bodily harm being inflicted on one of the newly arrived prisoners at the Bozhkovskaya correctional colony. An examination of the video confirmed its authenticity. The materials also contain other facts of torture in this and other correctional institutions, which are the subject of research.
Four officials of the Bozhkovskaya correctional colony (No. 16) were informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 127 (torture) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (as amended by the article before amendments by Law No. 2812-IX dated December 1, 2022).
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years. The issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to suspected persons is now being decided.
