According to the National Police, the 28-year-old man suspected of beating former serviceman Anatoliy Goncharenko in Smela on September 3 was hiding in a hotel in the Cherkasy region.
He was detained with the participation of police special forces.

The Smela City and District Court granted the petition of police investigators and the prosecutor's office, choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to post bail.
The suspect's home was searched, as a result of which, preliminarily, narcotics and weapons were seized.
Police are investigating the beating of a veteran in the city of Smela, Cherkasy region criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism committed by a group of persons), Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code (extortion).
In addition, based on the results of investigative actions, additional information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations on the fact of illegal possession of weapons and drugs (under Part 1 of Article 263 and Part 1 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code).
That is, a total of four criminal proceedings were initiated against the defendant.
Another participant in the beating was reported as suspected of hooliganism (Part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) — the father of a 28-year-old man, for whom a preventive measure has already been chosen.
At the same time, law enforcement officers have established the identity of the third accomplice involved in the beating of a former serviceman in Smela.
Already on September 11, he was informed of suspicion of hooliganism (under Part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and now the issue of choosing a preventive measure for him is being decided.
A total of three suspects are known in the case of the beating of a former serviceman in Smela. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
