Ballistic missiles from Iran and North Korea: Kovalenko explained what their features are

by alex

Wall Street Journal writes that Russia may purchase ballistic missiles from Iran this spring, and North Korea has allegedly already handed them over to the aggressor. From a purely technical point of view, nothing holds these two countries back from helping the Kremlin.

About this Channel 24said military-political observer of the Information Resistance group Alexander Kovalenko. He suggested that Iran may demand from Russia access to its technology in exchange for ballistic missiles.

What weapons Russia might get

On the other hand, I would still treat this information quite cautiously, because today we have repeatedly heard about how Iran is preparing to transfer ballistic missiles to Russia.

Back in 2022, we heard this information, but we never saw Iranian ballistic missiles being used by Russian occupation forces. However, there are risks that the Kremlin will receive these weapons from its partners, especially given the fact that Russia is ready to give everything it has in order to continue the war against Ukraine.

< p>There are two main types of Iranian missiles: these are Fateh-110 yes Zolfaghar.

“If the Fateh-110 is a kind of classic ballistic missile, which has the S-75 and Luna-M missiles at its base, then the Zolfaghar missile is completely different. Its difference is not only in its flight range , but also in the fact that its warhead is detached from the upper stage, and Russia does not have such technology for ballistic missiles,” Kovalenko noted.

Probably Iran will not wants Russia to just get Zolfaghar technology by simply buying this rocket. Apparently, Tehran is demanding from Russia some other technologies, the transfer of which Moscow is not yet ready to transfer.

Threat from North Korean missiles

In general, North Korea has a wide range of missile weapons, but almost all of them are adaptations of Soviet models and Chinese models, so all of this is actually a legacy of the Soviet Union or from China.

The range (of the Korean ballistic missile – 24 Channel) is up to 300 kilometers and from 300 to 500. In fact, this is an analogue of the Iskander, the military observer explained.

However, there is one caveat regarding not only North Korean, but also Iranian missiles. Information about the characteristics of their weapons available in open sources is in most cases overestimated. This could be seen even in the “Shahed” kamikaze drones that Iran had already sent to Russia,

“That is why (Russia's receipt of ballistic missiles – Channel 24) is, in the first place turn, a threat to the regions bordering Russia, as well as front-line villages, towns and cities along the battle line,” suggested Kovalenko.

What is known about other armed assistance for Russia

  • Shortly after the publication of the WSJ, the White House announced that Russia had already used Korean missiles against Ukraine. According to the agency, it was launched from Russia and flew to the outskirts of Zaporozhye.
  • Previously, Moscow also received significant quantities of Korean ammunition, which had already reached the front, having traveled across Asia . At the same time, according to preliminary reports, the quality of these ammunition is not always high.
  • In November 2023, it became known that in order to wage war against Ukraine, the aggressor began to buy from its partners equipment previously sold by him. In particular, engines for Russian helicopters were purchased from Egypt.
