Azerbaijan will take its toll on Putin: how the Kremlin can pay for the downed plane Natalia Belzetskaya

Western publications report that before the Azerbaijani plane crashed in Kazakhstan, it was affected by physical and technical interventions. This only confirms the version about the impact of a Russian missile.

As political scientist and sociologist from Germany Igor Eidman told 24 Channel, now the main pressure on Russia is coming from Azerbaijan. If the catastrophe had happened with a Russian plane, it is obvious that the Kremlin would have continued to lie.

Will Russia be punished

Influential people in Azerbaijan are already talking about the Russian crime. They are outraged that Russia is not taking responsibility and continues to hide what happened. There is no talk yet of any compensation either.

I am sure that Azerbaijan will make Russia pay and admit its guilt. But there will be no serious conflict between the countries. The two dictators will be able to come to an agreement, the political scientist said.

However, the Russians will have to make certain concessions. For example, assign payments to the victims of the plane crash. “Behind the scenes” agreements between Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev are also possible. Most likely, the head of the Kremlin will be forced to give in in some foreign policy areas and negotiations on this matter may already be ongoing.

Azerbaijan is a fairly strong country that is not oriented towards the Kremlin, but rather towards Turkey. Therefore, it will be able to take from Putin whatever it wants. Russia will not be able to completely hide its crime, Igor Eidman added.

President Aliyev needs to demonstrate to the Azerbaijani population and elites that he is not afraid of Putin and can stand up for his country. Otherwise, the politician will lose his influence. But relations between Azerbaijan and Russia will not change dramatically.

Recall that 38 people died in the plane crash of the Azerbaijani plane. The plane was denied an emergency landing in Grozny and Makhachkala. It was redirected to the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, where it collided with the ground and exploded.
