Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Kirill Budanov said in an interview that Ukraine has every chance to return Crimea before the end of this year. This is a very sober concept, if you look at the problems of the peninsula exclusively through a military prism.

Liberating Crimea is easier than Donbass
In fact, today breaking through the February 24 line in Donbas is an incredibly more difficult task than de-occupying the peninsula. Thus, a powerful enemy defense line has been built in the Donbas – everything is concreted, there are tanks and artillery.
According to Chernik, it can only be destroyed with heavy concrete-piercing bombs like the GBU-57, which weighs more than 12 tons.

How to de-occupy the peninsula
Chernik outlined a possible scenario by which our defenders could liberate the peninsula. So, first, with the help of long-range missiles MGM-140 ATACMS, it is necessary to completely neutralize the Crimean bridge.
And then a squadron of F-16 fighters should join – 24 aircraft armed with AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles with a range of up to 180 kilometers.
Fighters must interrupt all enemy logistics. Consequently, the invaders will not be able to transport forces and assets to Crimea by such aircraft as the Il-76.
“No matter how strange it may sound, in the military component it is easier than storming the Donbass,” the military expert summed up.< /p>
De-occupation of Crimea: latest statements
- The former commander of US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, believes that the struggle for Crimea will be key in Russia's war against Ukraine. According to him, Ukraine will not be safe while the Russian military is on the peninsula.

Thus, in order to reach the borders of Crimea, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need to overcome the distance of 84 kilometers to Melitopol.
