At NATO summit in The Hague, Trump was urged to increase pressure on Russia – Czech President

Czech President Petr Pavel has revealed details of closed-door talks with Donald Trump during the NATO summit in The Hague.

The leaders tried to persuade the head of the White House to increase economic pressure on Russia, but Trump did not change his mind.

Trump Refused to Increase Economic Pressure on Russia

According to the Czech President, economic pressure should push Russia to negotiations.

“Not with the aim of causing an economic collapse of Russia – that is not in our interests – but so that it realizes that there is simply no alternative to negotiations,” explained Petr Pavel.

He noted that while Trump remains restrained, he realizes that this is a very effective tool.

When the US president, at a NATO dinner, recalled his previous success with China, arguing that high tariffs had forced Beijing to change its position, Pavel used this argument to bolster his point.

“I said: You see, this is exactly the kind of decisive approach we need towards Russia now. If China felt it within a month, then Russia with its economy can feel it within a week or two,” the Czech leader noted.

It is worth noting that Czech President Petr Pavel has repeatedly expressed support for Ukraine in the war against Russia.

Pavel also does not support the option of peace with Russia, in which Ukraine would have to give up part of its territory, and emphasizes that any territorial concessions can only be temporary.
