An assassination attempt on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was prevented at Rzeszow Airport in Poland.
The head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk, told journalists about this.

“A retired military man, a Pole, who was recruited decades ago, and he believed in the Soviet idea and had been hatching the plan for many years. That is why the enemy activated this 'canned goods,'” the head of the SBU said.
The enemy accomplice's task was to physically eliminate President Zelensky at the Rzeszow airport.
Several options for assassinating Zelensky were considered: one option was an FPV drone, another option was a sniper complex.
“But we detained the agent. Our Polish colleagues worked professionally, it was our joint work,” added Vasily Malyuk.
The head of the SBU thanked the Polish Internal Security Agency for its assistance.
Previous assassination attempt on Volodymyr Zelensky
According to Vasily Malyuk, last year the Security Service detained a colonel, the head of the Department of the State Security Administration, and another colonel along with him. Both worked for the Russian FSB, namely the 5th Service (Service for Operational Information and International Relations).
“They were preparing an assassination attempt on our president, Volodymyr Oleksandrovich Zelensky. According to their criminal plan, they were looking for perpetrators and were supposed to carry it out during his passage through the territory of the Presidential Office,” noted Vasily Malyuk.
In addition to plans to kill President Zelensky, the defendants in the criminal case collected important information and passed it on to the Russians, and also prepared an assassination attempt on the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, and Vasily Malyuk himself.
In February 2025, Zelensky spoke of an assassination attempt on him at the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, during which people were killed in the Presidential Office.
