Mayor of the city Vadim Boychenko spoke about the huge scale of the dead in Mariupol in a commentary. He also expressed fear that in fact there could be even more victims.
More than 10 thousand people could have died in Mariupol
The mayor said that more than 10 people died in the city after the start of the Russian invasion thousand civilians. Boychenko noted that the streets of the city were “covered” with troupes. And the death toll could be even more than 20 thousand people.
The mayor of Mariupol also said that the Russian military had brought mobile cremation equipment to the city. He accused the occupiers of refusing to let humanitarian convoys into the city in order to hide the consequences of their actions.
The Russians took many bodies to a huge shopping center, where there are storage facilities and refrigerators. “Mobile crematoria arrived in the form of trucks: you open it, and inside there is a pipe, and these bodies are burned,” Boichenko explained.
In addition, about 120,000 civilians remain in Mariupol, who are in dire need of food and water , warmth and connection.
Note that the city has been under blockade since March 1st. More than 90% of the buildings are destroyed. The day before, the invaders used chemical weapons there.
