After the sixth Rammstein meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov published a list of weapons that Ukraine received as military aid since the full-scale invasion of Russia on February 24.
In particular, we are talking about air defense systems, MLRS, artillery, anti-aircraft missile systems and much more. The list of weapons amazes us, but during the war there are not enough weapons, and more are always needed, because they definitely will not rust. This Channel 24 was told by a military expert, instructor pilot and reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Roman Svitan.
What helped the Armed Forces of Ukraine the most
He noted that one of the most important types of weapons from the list presented by Reznikov is, of course, 155-caliber artillery, who worked at the front “for five plus”. According to the expert, it can in no way be compared with the old Soviet 152-caliber artillery, which shoots not so far and powerfully.HIMARS is generally the “hit of the season”, although they are at least several decades old. That is, not only HIMARS, but also other multiple launch rocket systems, M270 and MARS and ammunition for them. The missiles that we have, the M31 with a range of up to 80 kilometers, of course, have made their contribution,” Svitan stated.
What other weapons does Ukraine need
The expert stressed that before the MLRS launchers, I would like to get long-range ATACMS missiles firing at 300 kilometers, and maybe even PrSM with a range of up to 500 kilometers. “That is, somewhere near Shostka we could get to Moscow,” he said.Besides, Ukraine needs planes, for example, F16, which can carry missiles used in NASAMS and IRIS-T air defense systems, which are also transmitted to us via Rammstein. Also, to cover the country on the distant approaches, the Patriot air defense system would be useful.
“Tomahawks, which we ask, but do not see, would not interfere. Tomahawks are missiles, the so-called parity weapons , which can operate in Russia to a depth of 2-2.5 thousand kilometers, military installations, airfields, storage sites and launch sites, that is, to secure our heaven and earth, at least from aviation and missile types of destruction,” Svitan added .
In addition, the Ukrainian army and tanks are critically lacking. So, Abrams and Leopard 2 would significantly help our military, despite the fact that these are heavy tanks that were needed in the summer. Although this weapon complex is not yet visible in Ukraine's aid packages, according to a military expert, negotiations on the supply of tanks are still underway.
The next meeting in the Ramstein format was held on October 12 after massive rocket attacks on Ukraine the day before. Since it became clear that Russia was targeting the critical infrastructure of Ukraine, the allies of our state discussed primarily the supply of air defense systems.
Also, at the meeting of the Contact Group, they did not forget about providing Ukraine with rocket artillery, tanks, combat vehicles and armored personnel carriers. At the same time, military expert Pyotr Chernik noted that not everything about what was said at Ramstein went into public space. According to him, up to 70% of Ukraine's income as a result of this meeting will not be announced.
