Argentine Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was not injured in the assassination attempt – an unknown man tried to shoot her, but the gun did not go off.
The attacker pointed the gun directly at the woman: it did not work
It is noted that the attack on Fernandez de Kirchner took place at her house in the capital of Buenos Aires, when she greeted the people who came to support her amid allegations of corruption.
The attacker turned out to be a 35-year-old man of Brazilian origin. The police detained him.
The man pointed his gun at her and pulled the trigger. Cristina is alive because for some reason the gun didn't fire, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said.
He also called the assassination attempt on Fernandez de Kirchner “the most serious event that Argentina has experienced since returning towards democracy.”
Fernández de Kirchner is accused of allegedly choosing a construction company over her close ally in awarding construction contracts during her 2007-2015 presidency. She faces 12 years in prison. The Deputy Prime Minister herself calls the charges politically motivated.
