Belarusian dictator Lukashenko decided to invite Armenia to a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. In response, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan refused to participate.

The Armenian leader, in a conversation with Lukashenko, openly warned that he would not be able to take part in the meeting. He expressed hope that the CSTO partners will understand this decision.

Why Pashinyan won’t go to Minsk

It seems that in this way the country is moving even further away from the pro-Russian eastern military power bloc, since the Armenian authorities have repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of effective support for the CSTO within the framework of international cooperation of its member countries.

In particular, it is said that the last such complaint about the presence of Russian military bases on the territory of the country was expressed by Armenia during active hostilities in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Russia failed to fulfill its obligations

Previously, the Prime Minister of Armenia stated that he did not see any advantages in the presence of the Russian military. The reason for this was that Russia did not fulfill its allied obligations during the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh in September of this year.

These events, in essence, led us to the decision that we need to diversify our security relations, and we are trying to do this now,” the Armenian prime minister noted.

Despite this, Armenia is not yet going to “say goodbye” to Russian peacekeepers on its territory. Now they are discussing other issues and trying to understand what the reason is. Pashinyan suggests that this will be the agenda of working discussions between Armenia and Russia, Armenia and the CSTO.

What's happening around Nagorno-Karabakh

  • On September 19, Azerbaijan began “anti-terrorist measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh. In Armenia, after Azerbaijan announced that it had achieved its goals in Nagorno-Karabakh, rallies began. People gathered under the government building in Yerevan, as well as at the Russian Embassy.
  • Armenia actually recognized its surrender in Nagorno-Karabakh and its return to Azerbaijan. The Prime Minister of Armenia, during a meeting in Granada, officially recognized Nagorno-Karabakh as the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan.
