The elected president of Slovakia believes that Bratislava can host a summit that will end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Following Turkey, which offered mediation for peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, Slovakia came up with the same initiative. The Ukrainian and Russian delegations are ready to receive at the summit in Bratislava.
The elected President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, announced this on Wednesday, May 8, reports the Slovak publication Aktuality.
On the day that marks the 79th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, Pellegrini noted the devaluation of the concept of peace, which began to be taken for granted.
” Unfortunately, we now see that this is not the case. In the context of the war in Ukraine, guns are slowly starting to rattle in other parts of Europe and the world. There is talk of sending troops directly into the Russian-Ukrainian war, many are developing plans for a military conflict, and diplomacy is becoming tougher. in his vocabulary,” said the elected Slovak president.
He stated the need to diplomatically ensure peace in Ukraine, and therefore in Europe, and prevent the realization of tragic scenarios. The use of weapons, he said, should be considered “as a last resort.”
Pellegrini emphasized that Bratislava has experience in holding summits for peace negotiations.
Recall that the Speaker of Parliament Peter Pellegrini, who supports the policies of the pro-Russian Prime Minister Robert Fico, won the presidential elections in Slovakia.
