Another IRIS-T anti-aircraft complex from Germany has already arrived in Ukraine

German media reported that on May 24, another IRIS-T air defense system had already arrived in Ukraine. Subsequently, information about the next air defense system was confirmed by the German Ministry of Defense.

Thus, as of now in our country there are four IRIS-T medium range and one short-range system. It is noted that Germany promised to provide another two dozen air defense systems of various ranges.

Air defense from Germany

On Friday, May 24, Ukraine received the fourth IRIS-T anti-aircraft system from Germany.

Over the past year and a half, the weapon systems have proven effective in protecting the major Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Lviv from Russian air attacks. They also intercepted cruise missiles aimed at critical energy infrastructure, writes Spiegel.

In general, Berlin promised Kyiv 9 IRIS-T SLM air defense systems and 11 IRIS-T air defense systems T SLS, produced by the German company Diehl Defense. However, as the publication notes, Ukraine needs not only anti-aircraft systems, but also ammunition for them. Due to increased Russian shelling and supply bottlenecks from suppliers, it is difficult for the manufacturer to keep up with demand in Ukraine.

Demand of Ukraine in air defense

• Madam Ambassador of Ukraine to NATO Natalya Galibarenko said that work regarding potential deliveries of Patriot continues “at at all levels.” However, this is not an easy question. Countries do not have many systems that can shoot down ballistic missiles – so they are forced to take into account their own national security. However, there is “certain progress” on the issue.
• Romania notes that providing this air defense system to our state is not an easy process. The country is willing to hand over Patriot as long as it receives something in return. Romania does not want to be left without air defense.
• Vladimir Zelensky will visit France in June. The media write that there he will call on NATO countries to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine. The President had previously accused the Alliance of double standards because the US and UK were helping to repel an Iranian attack by Israel.
