The US Secret Service increased security around presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign weeks before his assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
This decision was made when American intelligence services became aware of a conspiracy against a politician being prepared in Iran.
CNN reports this, citing its own sources.

Attempt on Trump — what preceded
A US national security official said the Secret Service and Trump campaign were aware of the threat before the July 13 rally.
Trump's campaign does not comment on this matter.
— We do not comment on President Trump's security details. All questions should be directed to the United States Secret Service, — headquarters staff indicated in response to a CNN request.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating all the circumstances of the assassination attempt on Trump by 20-year-old Matthew Crooks, also declined to comment.
CNN sources, in turn, note that there is no information that the shooting of Crooks is in any way connected with the Iranian plot or was a consequence of it.
However, an incident on July 13 at a rally raises new questions about security shortcomings and raises questions about how an inexperienced shooter managed to get onto a roof overlooking a political event and its occupants.
