The head of the Bundestag Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, has been actively advocating military assistance to Ukraine since the first days of a full-scale war. This is what apparently angered Councilor Scholz, who made an offensive comment about the woman.

The incident occurred during a Bundeswehr conference organized by the German Ministry of Defense on November 9–10. 65-year-old MP Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann spoke about it herself in a post on the social network X.

“This old woman is annoying”

As Strack-Zimmermann notes, she asked Chancellor Olaf Scholz about a “sustainable strategy to support Ukraine.” Then the chief foreign policy adviser, Jens Plötner, who was there, said: “Wow, this old woman is annoying!”

According to the deputy, she herself did not hear Pletner’s words. They were then passed on to several event participants.

Strack-Zimmerman noted that an apology from Mr. Pletner would be nice, but she does not hope for one. Meanwhile, the government refused to comment on this case, saying that it does not explain the rumors.

It is also known that it was Scholz who answered the deputy’s question whether he had a strategy for supporting Kyiv. The Chancellor responded with two words: “Yes, we have.”

Germany plans to double military support for Ukraine

According to media reports, the German Ministry of Defense last week agreed on an increase in military assistance to Ukraine.

Initially, the federal budget for 2024 included 4 billion euros in military aid. Almost all funds have been allocated for already promised projects. Only 120 million euros remained for new aid. Then Defense Minister Boris Pistorius insisted that another 5 billion euros in aid to Ukraine be included in the budget. As a result, an additional 4 billion euros were agreed upon. In total we are talking about 8 billion euros.
