The Armed Forces of Ukraine thanked Slovakia for their support and assistance. The country of the initial full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine helped us with weapons.

Slovak weapons are already helping our defenders and defenders accelerate the victory of Ukraine.

Note that Slovak Defense Minister Yaroslav Nagy told on the transfer to Ukraine:

  • 122 mm ammunition for the Grad system,
  • 4 Mi-17 helicopters,
  • 1 Mi-2 helicopter.< /li>

This aid to Ukraine, like all previous deliveries, will be reimbursed to Slovakia from the European Peace Fund, which is a strong demonstration of the solidarity of the European Union with Ukraine, Yaroslav Nagy emphasized.

Slovakia's position in the Russian war v. Ukraine

  • From the very beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Slovakia has said that it will help Ukraine on its path to recovery after the war. The country also helps Ukrainian refugees forced to leave their homeland.
  • Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger stressed at the World Economic Forum in Davos that if Ukraine fails, Slovakia will be next. He added that our country must win the war started by Russia.
  • And recently, the leader of Slovakia, Zuzana Chaputova, during her visit to Ukraine, visited Irpin and Borodianka, who witnessed the atrocities of the Russian invaders. The Slovak delegation was shocked by what they saw there. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said earlier that the President of Slovakia and the President of Poland are doing everything to convince European countries of the need for Ukraine to join the EU.

It is also impressive that the Zuzana howitzers, which Slovakia is transferring to Ukraine, intended for their own army. However, the country's Ministry of Defense decided to give priority to the production of these howitzers on order for Ukraine. The representative of the Ministry of Defense of Slovakia, Martina Koval Kakaschikova, stressed that the delivery date of Zuzana howitzers to their own armed forces is still unknown. After all, the country has given priority to obtaining weapons for Ukraine.

Note that the purchase of 25 Zuzana 2 howitzers was approved by the government back in 2018. But due to the pandemic, the delivery date was postponed several times. The last eight pieces were to be delivered by mid-December 2022.

At the same time, the state joint-stock company Konstrukta Defense, owned by the Slovak Ministry of Defense, this week signed an agreement for the sale of eight Zuzana howitzers to Ukraine 2.
