Statements about the transfer of Iranian weapons to the Russian Federation were made in Washington.
Iran supplies Russia with loitering bombs of various types, and may also transfer short-range ballistic missiles. In particular, this was stated in the USA.
This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
ISW notes that it has observed Russian forces increasingly using loitering bombs. In particular, the FAB-500, KAB-500 and RPK-500 aerial bombs in the Liman and Kherson directions were modified. It is noted that Iran produces a variety of loitering bombs within the country. For example Ghaem, long-range Yasin, Sadid and Balaban. Tehran typically uses these bombs with various drone platforms, likely also with the Shahed-131/136, which they supply to the Russian Federation.
It should be noted that one Russian military blogger previously shared claims that Su-25 aircraft could be compatible with Iranian bombers. Iran presented several versions of such bombs at the Russian Army 2023 forum in Moscow in August 2023 and possibly during Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu's visit to Tehran in September 2023.
In addition, Washington stated that Iran continues to supply Russia with drones and artillery ammunition. The Ukrainian State Intelligence Directorate also notes that the country may continue to send small batches of Shahed-131/136 drones to the Russian Federation, despite intensifying efforts to domestically produce such UAVs.
ISW previously assessed that Iran and Russia could enter into an agreement to sell drones and missiles when UN missile restrictions on the export of Iranian missiles and missile-related technology expire on October 18, 2023.
Let us recall that the coordinator of the US National Security Council, John Kirby, said: there are facts indicating increased cooperation between Russia and Iran. According to him, Tehran provides the Russian Federation with a significant amount of UAVs, guided bombs and artillery ammunition. The Russian Federation uses all these weapons for attacks against Ukraine.
The administration of Russian President-dictator Vladimir Putin responded to US statements about Iran’s possible supply of ballistics to the country. In particular, the Kremlin noted that military-technical ties between the two countries are developing.
