Andrey Melnik said that the announcements from Olaf Scholz will not help us in the war with Russia. Ukraine needs clear dates for the supply of weapons.

Andrey Melnyk made the corresponding statement in a commentary to foreign media. He also assured that Ukraine is also waiting for a signal to grant EU candidacy.

The Ukrainian ambassador explained what he expects from Scholz's visit

Hopefully, during his visit to Kyiv, the chancellor will finally keep Germany's promises regarding the supply of weapons and Ukraine's accession to the EU, – Andriy Melnyk explained.

The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany noted that only announcements on the supply of weapons will not help us in the war against Russia. That is why Ukraine expects specific dates from the chancellor for the arrival of weapons.

Melnyk noted that the fulfillment of promises is relevant, given that they were given months ago. In particular, the diplomat recalled that Ukraine needs:

• heavy weapons, like Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers;
• as well as Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery mounts.

Moreover, Andriy Melnik recalled that the morale of Ukrainians would significantly raise the signal to Germany, France and Italy that Ukraine could become a candidate for EU membership.

In addition, such a signal would clearly show Russia that that the European Union unanimously supports a free Ukraine.

Briefly about the likely visit of politicians to Ukraine

• On June 12, the media reported that Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz would visit Ukraine before the G7 summit . We are talking about the fact that the visit of the politician is scheduled for the end of June.
• In particular, according to press reports, three high-ranking officials will arrive in Kyiv together – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
• Prior to this, it is known that Macron planned to visit Ukraine only after parliamentary elections, the first round of which has already taken place. But Olaf Scholz said that he needed a good reason for the visit.
• Previously, the media wrote that the leaders of the countries wanted to express European unity on this trip.
• It is worth remembering that Olaf Scholz more than once promised Ukraine weapons, but still cannot provide them in any way. In particular, on June 8, foreign media wrote that such statements by Germany caused concern. The Greeks even called the process a “circus” and a mockery of Ukraine.
• Scholz himself said that Germany allegedly provides weapons, but there is no data on this. At the same time, the German chancellor spoke out that “dialogue with Russia should be maintained.”
