Russia has appointed a new commander of the Western Military District, Lieutenant General Evgeny Nikiforov. He is called “the man of Surovikin and Prigogine.” He became the fourth commander of the district since the beginning of Russia's war against Ukraine.

Poor quality of personnel
Ryzhenko noted that during the hostilities the Vostok exercises were also conducted in the Far East.
