Ukrainian swimmer Alexander Zheltyakov failed to qualify for the 200-meter backstroke at the 2024 Olympic Games.
The 18-year-old athlete showed the 20th result and ended his performance at his debut Olympic Games.
Zheltyakov named the reason for the failure to qualify
After the swim, Alexander said in a comment to Suspilny that he fell ill on the day of the opening ceremony.

— What caused such a performance? I think it was wrong to get sick before this start. When we arrived, on the opening day, — almost all the swimmers got sick. But that was not the main problem. I think my attitude to this competition was not the best after many weeks of poor training. I don’t know what else to say, — noted the athlete.
Zheltyakov added that he did not expect such a result. In his opinion, he not only failed to show the best performance of his career in Paris, but also called it the worst.
Recall that Aleksandr Zheltyakov also failed to qualify for the 100-meter backstroke. In his qualifying swim, he showed a time of 54.32 seconds, which is only the 24th result.
