Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has named three senior clerics who could succeed him if something happens to him.
The New York Times writes about this, citing Iranian officials.
Ali Khamenei names possible successors in case of his death
Under Iran's constitution, if the supreme leader dies, the 88-member Assembly of Experts must choose a new leader. That process has only been used once, in 1989, when Khamenei himself was elected to the job.

Khamenei himself wants the transition of power to be quick and smooth if he dies.
After Khamenei reportedly escaped an Israeli plot to assassinate him, US President Donald Trump this week called Iran's supreme leader an “easy target.”
“We know exactly where the so-called Supreme Leader is hiding… He's an easy target, but he's safe there – we're not going to destroy him (kill him!), at least not yet,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also did not rule out the possibility of an attack on Khamenei. He believes that the death of the Iranian leader will not lead to new conflicts, but on the contrary, will help to end them.
While Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz went further, saying Khamenei should not be allowed to “continue to exist” after Iran hit a hospital in Israel with a missile.
