On June 27, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed historian Oleksandr Alferov as head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance (UINR). Anton Drobovych held this position until December 2024.

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications reported this.

“The Cabinet of Ministers has appointed Alexander Alferov as head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance,” the statement reads.

Alexander Alferov, a historian, television and radio host, as well as a public figure and military man, will now head a key institution responsible for the formation of national memory.

Since 2010, Alferov has worked as a research fellow at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

During this period, he authored and co-authored 15 books and published more than 100 scientific articles, which testifies to his significant contribution to the development of historical science.

What is known about Alexander Alferov

With the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Alferov joined the ranks of the Armed Forces, becoming an officer in the Azov-Kyiv Special Operations Forces.

Since September 2022, he has held the position of officer of the 3rd separate assault brigade, where he served as the head of the humanitarian training and information support group of the psychological support department of personnel.

Alferov holds the military rank of reserve major. In parallel with his military service, he headed an expert group on de-Russification in the capital, which underlines his active civic position and work in the field of preserving Ukrainian identity.

Let us recall that on December 13, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed Anton Drobovich from the post of head of the UINP. Later, on December 21, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Yulia Gnatyuk as acting head of this institution.
