Air pollution levels in Kyiv remain high: better stay at home and close your windows

Air pollution levels remain high in the capital. Local authorities recommend that the people of Kiev limit their stay on the street.

In Kyiv, an approach to the maximum permissible concentration of suspended particles (dust) was recorded. The source of education is outside the territorial boundaries of the city.

What is the situation with air pollution

The KSCA noted that the increase in concentration occurs through the movement of air masses of dust from the south east.

As of 09:15 on the left bank, the content of suspended particles is 273 micrograms per cubic meter , on the right – 316 units.Meanwhile, the allowable concentration is 500 micrograms per cubic meter.

Exceeding the maximum allowable concentration of other pollutants monitored (nitrogen oxide and dioxide, sulfur oxide, ozone, formaldehyde, oxide carbon, hydrogen sulfide), not detected.

To improve the air situation, it is recommended:

  • close windows at home ;
  • don't go outside again;
  • drink plenty of water;
  • if there is an air cleaner, then turn it on to the maximum.

When the smog disappears in Kyiv

The hydrometeorological center explained when the smog disappears in the capital. The head of the Cherkasy regional hydrometeorological center, Vitaliy Postrigan, reported the relevant information.

According to weather forecasts, air purification can only be expected to improve the situation in the evening of August 23.

Postrigan also explained that the reason for this phenomenon is the transfer of air with dust particles from the Caspian Lowland and other Asian regions to the region. dust caused such a deterioration in visibility,” the specialist explained.

He also said that dust particles can irritate mucous membranes, cause coughing and sneezing.

“This is especially dangerous for people suffering from diseases respiratory organs, allergic reactions and the elderly. Therefore, it is advisable to limit exposure to the open air, as well as close windows in houses and carry out wet cleaning more often,” Vitaly Postrigan advised.

Important! The specialist explained that haze is a continuous turbidity of the air due to the presence of suspended particles of dust, industrial smoke or smoke of other origin in it. During fog, distant objects have a grayish tint, and the sun, especially if it is low on the horizon, becomes reddish-yellow.
