Air defense systems will now be priority in military assistance to Ukraine – NATO Secretary General

by alex

International partners continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia. In light of the massive missile strikes, NATO noted the priority in providing air defense systems.

The Russian military carried out massive missile strikes on Ukraine throughout October 10 and 11. This stirred up the world community, which decided to reconsider the priorities in providing us with weapons.

Ukraine will receive more air defense

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg noted that the priority of the Alliance has become the provision of additional air defense systems to Ukraine. The call for increased military assistance to our state is on the agenda in Brussels. It will be discussed during a meeting of the defense departments of about 50 states on October 12 in the Ramstein format.

Recall that this is the first meeting since Moscow announced the annexation of the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. Defense leaders will gather to discuss the apparent escalation of the war unleashed by Russia.

Russian missile attacks are a sign of weakness

Stoltenberg called for more advanced air defense systems in order to protect Ukrainian cities and villages from air attacks. The very same rocket attacks from Russia, he called a manifestation of weakness. Moreover, according to the NATO Secretary General, the relevant actions are a demonstration that the Kremlin is running out of alternatives.

The reality is that they cannot make progress on the battlefield. Russia is actually losing on the battlefield,” Stoltenberg stressed.

At a time when Ukraine continues to make progress on the front, Russia is increasingly resorting to horrific and indiscriminate attacks on civilians. It also attacks critical infrastructure, Stoltenberg noted.

The priority in providing Ukraine with air defense has already been commented on by the head of the Presidential Administration Andriy Yermak. He stressed that it is the defense of our state from the sky that will be the main topic of the next meeting in the Ramstein format.

This is a very correct focus of attention – we must close the sky from the Russian terrorist threat in order to save lives,” he stressed.

Ukraine has already received IRIS-T

As Minister of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov noted, one IRIS-T air defense system from Germany has already been delivered to Ukraine. Soon, our state will expect deliveries of the corresponding NASAMS systems from the United States.

According to Reznikov, this is only the beginning, because our state requires much more installations for protection from the sky. In addition, he noted that a new era of air defense has begun.

Yermak also commented on the provision of IRIS-T to Ukraine. He noted that the sky over Ukraine is more tightly closed from Russian missiles. And as soon as we get NASAMS, we will be able to create our own sky shield.
