Air Defense, Artillery, and Drones: US Announces $500 Million Aid Package for Ukraine

United States President Joe Biden has agreed on the 72nd aid package for Ukraine.

This was announced by US Presidential Advisor John Kirby during a briefing in White House.

According to Kirby, the aid package will include air defenses, artillery, UAVs, and armored vehicles.

— As President Biden has made clear, we will continue to provide additional aid packages throughout the remainder of this administration, — he said.

Subsequently, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that the aid package for Ukraine would be worth $500 million.

— The United States is providing another significant package of urgently needed weapons and equipment to our Ukrainian partners who are defending themselves against ongoing Russian attacks, — Blinken said

The support will be provided under the PDA program, meaning it will be allocated directly from U.S. Army warehouses.

The aid package will include:

  • HIMARS ammunition;
  • 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition;
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAS);
  • Ammunition to counter unmanned aerial systems (c-UAS).
  • Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicles;
  • High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV);
  • Light Tactical Vehicles; chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense systems;
  • Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank missiles;
  • TOW missiles;
  • small arms ammunition;
  • grenades and training equipment;
  • explosives equipment and ammunition,
  • as well as spare parts, support equipment, services, training, and vehicles.

Previous U.S. Assistance Package for Ukraine was announced just five days ago, on December 7, and included military aid worth almost $1 billion.

Recall that earlier The Hill wrote that the US Congress wants to conduct an assessment of the possible risks if America stops providing military support to Ukraine.
