The Armed Forces of Ukraine, if they receive long-range ATACMS missiles from the United States, will not use them to strike the territory of the Russian Federation.
This was stated by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexey Danilov in an interview with the Spanish ABC newspaper.
He explained that Ukraine does need ATACMS, but these missiles will be used solely to protect Ukrainian territory. There are corresponding agreements with partners on Western weapons.
Now they are watching
– We will not use them (ATACMS missiles, –Ed.) on Russian territory, we have agreements on this issue with our partners,โ Danilov emphasized.
He added that Ukraine will hit military targets on the territory of the Russian Federation only with weapons of its own production. We are talking about objects from which “our children are being shelled almost every day”.
At the same time, Danilov noted that our state does not attack the civilian population of the Russian Federation, as the aggressor country does.
โ We do not attack schools or kindergartens, as the Russian Federation does. If there (on Russian territory –Ed.) a strike is struck, it will be exclusively against military targets,โ the NSDC Secretary clarified.
ATACMS for Ukraine: what is known
Kiev has been calling on Washington for months to provide long-range ATACMS missiles capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 300 km.
Lastly At the time, unofficial information began to appear in the Western media that the United States would still provide Ukraine with ATACMS, possibly some limited number of missiles.
It was reported that US President Joe Biden may approve sending a version of ATACMS equipped with cluster bombs, and not just one warhead. The White House has not officially confirmed this.
Washington did not mention ATACMS in the latest $325 million military aid package for Ukraine.
