The situation in Kosovo remains tense. Serbs have built new barricades in the streets of Mitrovica.
New aggravations have resulted in Pristina's decision to hold early elections in Kosovo's predominantly Serbian northern municipalities. Therefore, for the first time, barricades appeared right in the city.
What is happening in Mitrovica
The city of Mitrovica is inhabited by both Albanians and Serbs. the latter decided to set up barricades of loaded trucks that appeared at night. Since the outbreak began, these are the first barricades in the city, because usually they appeared only on the roads leading to the Kosovo-Serbian border.
It is worth noting that Kosovo asked the NATO KFOR peacekeeping force to remove the fences, hinting that Kosovo the forces themselves can take such a step.
Kosovo postponed the elections
A aggravation has already flared up between Kosovo and Serbia due to Pristina's decision to switch to their own documents and license plates. After a series of riots, the pro-Serb party boycotted the authorities in four northern municipalities of Kosovo, after which the police forces of the partially recognized state entered there. The regions decided to hold early elections in December this year.
After pressure from the US and the EU and new aggravations with the Serbs, Kosovo agreed to postpone the elections in the spring of 2023. However, the Serbs are not satisfied with this decision, and they continue to protest.
At the same time, the Kosovo security forces and the Serbian army are on alert.
