From Wednesday, June 8, it is forbidden to perform Russian-language songs in Ivano-Frankivsk. The same decision was adopted earlier in Ternopil.
The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk Ruslan Martsinkiv announced the decision on Russian-language music during a live broadcast.
Today, a decision was made, similar to that adopted in Ternopil, to ban any Russian-speaking product on the streets of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk. And also composing street musicians,” said the mayor of the city.
Martsinkiv added that local law enforcement officers and the municipal inspectorate of Ivano-Frankivsk will monitor the implementation of the new requirements.
The decision was made by the executive committee and will be submitted to the police and our municipal inspectorate for execution “Mr.”, who will follow this, – said Martsinkiv.
What preceded the decision
- On May 22, a fight broke out in the center of Ivano-Frankivsk over the performance of a song in Russian. A passer-by quarreled with a female musician who sang in Russian and refused to switch to another.
- In the video released by eyewitnesses, it is clear that two more male musicians intervened in the dispute, after a verbal skirmish, the man hit one of the guys and he fell on the paving stones from the blow.
- The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk Ruslan Martsinkiv also reacted to the incident. He noted that he had already instructed the municipal inspectorate to be more attentive and “to control such things in the city center.” Martsinkiv also instructed to find out if there was a statement to the police and said that the attacker needed to find a lawyer.
- After the publicity of the scandal in Ternopil on June 1, the musicians were forbidden to sing Russian-language songs. In addition to restrictions on the performance of Russian songs, musicians were forbidden to perform on days of mourning or on days of remembrance. The executive committee also determined a list of places where street musicians can perform. 8 locations will be located in the center of Ternopil, 5 – in the park area, and 5 more – in other residential areas.
