Financing for Ukraine

< p>Norway will provide Ukraine with additional financial and humanitarian assistance in the amount of $800 million.

Today Norway announces additional clear support for Ukraine. I want to share this information with you. The Ukrainian government should pay nurses, doctors, teachers and other workers, said Stere.

The Norwegian Prime Minister noted that in this way they will help with $1 billion in support from the United States for 2023 a year that is already ending. According to him, Norway will support the Ukrainian people in the fight against Russia from the first months of 2024.

What will be included in the aid package

Provision of financial support is provided to cover expenses for education, health care and pensions in general. At the beginning of 2024, more than 250 million euros will also be provided for the functioning of the education and health sectors through the URTF fund under the auspices of the World Bank.

28 million euros are provided for further strengthening of air defense.

In addition, Norway will provide Ukraine with the NASAMS air defense system. Some of them will be sent from the country's own warehouses, while others will be ordered from manufacturers for delivery later.

Also, a significant part of the funds will be allocated to strengthening the capabilities of the defense industry so that more can be produced for Ukraine shells and missiles.

At the same time, a “winter” UN humanitarian program for Ukraine is provided, designed to provide shelter, basic things and food to people who are left homeless as a result overhead.

This funding will be in addition to previously announced assistance through 2023.

What preceded this

• Vladimir Zelensky arrived on a visit to the United States on December 11. On his first day in Washington, he met with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and General Charles Brown.
• The United States subsequently allocated a new aid package for Ukraine worth $200 million. The Pentagon said that the new package includes air defense systems, artillery ammunition, anti-tank weapons and auxiliary equipment.
• December 13 The President of Ukraine arrived in the capital of Norway after a visit to the United States . The main goal is to discuss strengthening support for Ukraine in a meeting with the head of the Norwegian government, Jonas Gahr Stere.
