More than 7 thousand soldiers, who left their units without permission for the first time, have returned to the army. This happened after the adoption of the relevant law, which came into force in November 2024.

Of these, 4 thousand 396 people have already been officially reinstated in military service, with respect to the rest, the process of restoring state guarantees and social benefits, as well as closing criminal proceedings, is underway.

— And this figure is increasing every day. Accordingly, the commander was obliged to immediately restore all payments to the soldier within 72 hours after his arrival, — reports Tatyana Sapyan, press secretary for communications for the State Bureau of Investigation.
The commander must also inform the pre-trial investigation agency and the Military Law Enforcement Service about the soldier's arrival and continuation of service. After this, the procedure for closing the case against the soldier begins.
Reasons for leaving the unit without permission
The press secretary for the State Bureau of Investigation said that among the reasons why the soldiers decided to take an illegal step — fatigue, desire to see relatives, conflict.
— But it is important that many realize their mistake and today the state has provided an opportunity to correct it without criminal consequences, — she emphasized.
Recall that the Verkhovna Rada extended the deadline for the voluntary return to service of those military personnel who left their unit without permission until March 1, 2025. At the same time, if a serviceman does not return to his place of service, he may be deprived of liberty for 10 years.
