What is known about the recognition of Russia as a sponsor of terrorism
On August 11, the Saeima of Latvia recognized Russia as a state sponsoring terrorism in the world. The head of the commission on foreign affairs, Rihards Kols, stressed that Moscow has been supporting and financing terrorists for many years. It is the largest supplier of weapons to Syria, and is also behind the downing of the MH-17 plane and the poisoning of the Fiddler family.
Latvian officials stressed that the Russian army brutally kills Ukrainians and violates all international rules. They expressed solidarity with the dead citizens of Ukraine.
By the way, Riga called on the EU countries to stop issuing visas to Russians and Belarusians. Note that in Latvia, Russians have stopped issuing visas since August 5. The exception is a trip to the funeral of a close relative.
The Office of the President thanked the Latvian colleagues for the important decision and called on other EU countries to follow the example. At the same time, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba stressed that Russia has long deserved the status of a country that finances terrorism.
