In Afghanistan, the number of victims of a powerful earthquake is increasing. The element claimed at least 920 lives.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred 44 kilometers from the city Khost near the border with Pakistan. In addition to more than 900 dead, another 600 people were injured.

The death toll is likely to rise, as some villages are located in remote areas in the mountains, and to collect details will take some time, said an Afghan government spokesman.
Helicopters are used to evacuate the wounded. Most of the victims were in Paktika. About 90 houses were destroyed. Dozens more people may be under the rubble.
