The earthquake that shook Afghanistan and Pakistan on the morning of June 22. The main blow fell on the Afghan province of Paktika.

Hundreds more people were injured

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred 44 kilometers from the city Khost near the border with Pakistan. In addition to more than 900 dead, another 600 people were injured.

Unfortunately, the Afghan Emergency Service stated that the number of victims will increase. The reason why remote settlements have been affected is that there is no information yet.

The death toll is likely to rise, as some villages are located in remote areas in the mountains, and to collect details will take some time, said an Afghan government spokesman.

Helicopters are used to evacuate the wounded. Most of the victims were in Paktika. About 90 houses were destroyed. Dozens more people may be under the rubble.

Earthquake in Afghanistan: the main thing

The earthquake in Afghanistan occurred at a fairly early time, which is why the number of victims is high – many were sleeping in their homes.

The element was also felt in neighboring Pakistan. However, there were no reports of damage or casualties from there.

The situation in Afghanistan

Providing assistance to the victims complicates the political situation in the country. Last year, Taliban terrorists took over the country after US troops withdrew. The international community has largely abandoned Afghanistan.

Terror attacks often take place in the country, killing people. There is also a crisis in many areas due to new Taliban bans. For example, the explosion of a minibus in Kabul on June 11 killed 4 people.

Al Jazeera reported that the Taliban are celebrating a year since the beginning of the takeover of the country and Afghanistan has been suffering from similar explosions in recent months. Earlier, ISIS was admitted to the attacks.
