Corruption scandal in the Ministry of Defense: what is known
- Recently, Zerkalo Nedeli published a copy of a deal concluded on December 23 by the Ministry of Defense for catering services in 2023 for several military units. Its cost is 13.16 billion hryvnia. At the same time, the journalists compared the prices for the deal with the prices for the same products in the Silpo chain of stores in a residential area of Kyiv. Prices for the most popular products purchased by the Ministry of Defense were allegedly overpriced by 2-3 times.
- Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov commented on the scandal over the food procurement system. He stated that the investigative journalist was mistaken when he said that “eggs are bought for 17 hryvnias.” The minister recalled how he learned about the scandal. Then he was at the Ramstein meeting, he did not have a phone with him, since they had to set all the gadgets while the meeting lasted.
- The next day after his arrival, Reznikov began to sort through the documents in order to understand what's happening. Then he was told that the story with eggs sounded a few days before the publication on the Mirror of the Week on the Iceland channel. That is, this is not news. My colleagues looked at the documents and said: “Someone misunderstood this.” Moreover, there is no position “egg, one piece costs 17 hryvnias” in any document. I say: “Where did the journalist come from?” “Well, he must have made a mistake, because there is no number 17 in the document in the “things” section. It is where the weight is.” And this is a little different…”
