Activists in Brussels created a human chain in support of Ukraine's accession to the EU/Channel 24 Collage
Ukrainian activists in Brussels on June 12 demand Ukraine's candidate status for EU membership. They formed a human chain.
More than a thousand people gathered near the building of the European Commission. They held hands and sang the song “Chervona viburnum”. The activists brought state flags and EU flags with them, people also dressed in yellow and blue colors.
Ukraine and the EU are one family
Thus in a symbolic way, people demonstrated that Ukraine and Europe are one family. The activists asked to support Ukraine's application for the status of a candidate for the European Union. It will be considered at the next EU summit on June 23-24.

Latest news on Ukraine's accession to the EU
- Ukraine applied for EU accession a few days after the Russian invasion. It was signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
- The EU supported the aspiration, Ukraine promptly filled out the questionnaire and handed it over to the European Commission. In the future, our state may receive the status of a candidate for EU membership.
- Many states support us in this decision. For example, Poland and the Baltic countries. However, there are those who oppose Ukraine's accession to the EU. We are talking about the Netherlands, the ambiguous position of Germany and France.
- In particular, President Emmanuel Macron proposed an “alternative option” – to create an association of states that aspire to join the bloc or desire closer ties and adherence to EU values.< /li>
- Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba stressed that no surrogate options would suit us. In his opinion, the EU has no rational reasons to deny Ukraine the status of a candidate.
- Ukraine is actively fighting at the diplomatic level for accession to the EU. The European Commission will decide on the candidacy of our state on June 23-24.
- The Office of the President hopes that the decision will be positive. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that this could strengthen not only Ukraine, but the entire EU. Therefore, we will work even harder at all levels to become a candidate.
