About 250 trucks from Russia and Belarus have not been allowed into Lithuania because for the fifth package of sanctions/dcdn.lt almost 250 trucks with cargo.

This was announced on the morning of April 11 by Vitas Volungevičius, head of the communication department of the Lithuanian Customs Department. At the same time, Rokas Pukinskas, a representative of the State Border Guard Service, noted that after the weekend, the number of sanctioned vehicles in the country had decreased.

According to Lithuanian customs officers, Russia and Belarus will avoid checkpoints in the EU countries. From a logistical point of view, attempts to cross the border in circumvention of the sanctions cause great financial damage to both countries.

According to the State Border Committee of Belarus, at the border control points with Lithuania on Monday morning, checks was expected 110 – 340 trucks. Meanwhile, on the Lithuanian side on the border with Belarus, queues of trucks stood idle for several days.

In addition, the queues of trucks on the border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia increased.

What is the situation as of Monday morning

Now there are no trucks on the Belarusian-Polish border. 550 vehicles are registered for departure to Lithuania, only 70 to Latvia.

According to the Lithuanian Directorate of Border Control Points, from 400 to 740 trucks were expected to enter Belarus in the morning, and Kaliningrad region to Kybartai – 73 trucks.

Recall that on Friday evening, EU sanctions came into force, prohibiting cargo carriers from Russia and Belarus from operating in EU member states. The exception is essential products (agricultural products, food, humanitarian aid). The ban does not apply to transit through Lithuania to Kaliningrad.

Trucks from sanctioned countries must leave the EU within a week.
